The Florida Everglades is one of the largest wetlands in the world. The everglade used to take up as much as a third of the state of Florida, however, The settlers that arrived in florida in the early 1900s drained much of the swamp to build their houses. The Everglades used to extend 3,000,000 acres, however, today in only extends 1,500,000 acres. The Everglades became a National Park in 1947 as the government recognized its importance as a habitat to the large number of unique species that live there.
The Florida Everglades have a pleasant climate consisting of an average temperatures of 77F in winter and 90F in Summer. The average rainfall in the Everglades is 60 inches per year during the rain season which extends from June through October. In addtion, the Florida Everglades is sometimes affected by the The Atlantic Hurricane Season from June to November.
